HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A hazardous weather alert is in effect today due to the potential for flooding.
The National Weather Service reports there is a chance for flash flooding through late tonight in southeast New York.
The notice includes Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.
Today will be rainy, with thunderstorms possible, and high temperatures in the low 80s. The highest chance for thunderstorms will be later this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
"There is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) that a few thunderstorms could become severe with damaging winds… across portions of eastern NY," the National Weather Service said.
Expect gradual clearing tonight, followed by a mostly sunny day on Tuesday, when highs will reach into the low to mid-80s, forecasters said. Tuesday is predicted to be the nicest for outdoor activities of the work week.
The potential for wet weather returns on Wednesday through Friday, when showers and potential thunderstorms are again in the forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

Today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 81. Southwest wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 63. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Light and variable wind becoming north around 5 mph in the morning.
Tuesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Light southeast wind.
Wednesday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70.
Thursday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 86.
