SUNY Ulster Graduates Newest Police Training Class At Stone Ridge Campus

STONE RIDGE, NY — The next generation is ready to protect and serve.

SUNY Ulster has announced the graduation of its latest Police Basic Training class in Stone Ridge, where 16 cadets were recognized July 22 for completing the program. The college said every graduate secured employment with law enforcement agencies in Ulster, Dutchess and Chautauqua counties.

According to SUNY Ulster, the program prepares students for careers in law enforcement and continues a long-standing record of placing graduates in agencies across the region. The college said acceptance into the program is highly competitive and based on performance on the physical agility test.

The 30-credit certificate program is offered through a collaboration between SUNY Ulster and the Ulster County Law Enforcement Training Group, or UCLETG. SUNY Ulster said the program incorporates all New York State-approved pre-employment curriculum and objectives. The college also said those 30 credits apply toward its Associate in Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice.

"This class boasts a 100 percent job placement rate, with most graduates being employed by local agencies right here in our community," says Jim Truitt, Chair of the Criminal Justice Department. "This achievement highlights the dedication of our students and the strength of our partnerships with local law enforcement."

Several graduates received special recognition during the ceremony. Charles Gent was named Top Cop. Jason Kinscy was awarded Top Physical Fitness. Hunter Bogosian received Top Academics and the Krupica Scholarship.

The Krupica Scholarship Award was created by George Krupica, a SUNY Ulster alumnus and retired law enforcement professional, to support students pursuing careers in criminal justice and law enforcement.

The program's next class is already underway. SUNY Ulster said a new academy class began Monday, Aug. 3, with 21 students enrolled.

The college said its next class will begin in January 2027. A mandatory information session is scheduled for mid-October, according to SUNY Ulster. More information is available by email at policeacademy@sunyulster.edu and on the college website.
