HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Oppressive heat and humidity will impact the Hudson Valley region into the weekend, with daily thunderstorms in the forecast through Saturday.
The National Weather Service predicts it will be hot and humid through at least Friday, with the combined heat and humidity making it feel like it is between 95 and 103 degrees.
"These conditions may persist into Saturday," the National Weather Service said. "Showers and thunderstorms are possible each afternoon and evening which may produce heavy downpours with a localized flash flood risk."
A heat advisory is in effect for the Hudson Valley region through 8 p.m. on Friday.
Ulster and Dutchess counties can expect heat index values of up to 98 degrees. In Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, heat index values will reach 101, forecasters said.
The combined heat and humidity could cause illness, according to the National Weather Service.
Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning if possible, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. If working outside, take frequent breaks.
A hazardous weather outlook alert has been issued for southeast New York due to the heat and storm potential. Some thunderstorms will bring gusty winds along with heavy downpours, according to the National Weather Service.
It predicts daily high temperatures through Monday will reach into the upper 80s. The thunderstorm chances are for today, Friday and Saturday. Sunday and Monday are predicted to be sunny and dry in the Hudson Valley, its meteorologists said.
