The enforcement push focused on state parks with higher numbers of child restraint violations and emphasized the importance of proper seat belt and child passenger restraint use, according to NYSP.

In 2025, New York State Parks set an attendance record with approximately 86 million visitors statewide. With millions of families traveling to and from state parks each year, ensuring that children and other occupants are properly restrained remains a critical traffic safety priority, state officials said.

As part of the initiative, Troop K conducted enforcement details at Lake Taghkanic State Park in Columbia County and Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown.

During the 2026 enforcement detail, Troopers issued 221 child restraint violations, 284 seat belt violations,55 other violations and there was one DWI arrest.

"The New York State Police remind motorists that seat belts and properly installed child safety seats can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash," state police said, announcing the results of the effort. "Drivers should ensure that every occupant is properly restrained before traveling."
