The National Weather Service said it is anticipating a round of thunderstorms with the potential for heavy rain late Monday afternoon and into the evening.

High temperatures this afternoon will reach around 90 degrees. A heat advisory remains in effect for southern areas of the Hudson Valley until 7 p.m., with heat index values of up to 95 degrees.

The combined high temperatures and humidity may cause heat-related illnesses, according to the National Weather Service. Residents are urged to seek out air conditioning if possible.

A hazardous weather outlook alert has been issued due to the heat and storm potential.

"In addition to the heat, showers and thunderstorms are possible late this afternoon and evening as a frontal system approaches," the National Weather Service said. "The area is in a Marginal Risk for both severe weather and excessive rainfall, with the primary threats damaging winds and isolated flash flooding."

Any storms are expected to clear out by Tuesday. The rest of the week is predicted to be somewhat cooler. Daytime highs for Tuesday through Friday in the Hudson Valley will reach into the 80s.
