More Thunderstorms Expected For Hudson Valley And New Details On Labor Day Weekend Forecast

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — New rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected in the region this afternoon and tonight, according to meteorologists.

The National Weather Service reports there will be a risk for flash flooding across the region, particularly in urban and poor drainage areas.

Much of the day today will be mostly cloudy, with highs in the lower 70s. There is a 20 percent chance of showers after 2 p.m.

The likelihood of showers and thunderstorms jumps tonight, with the chance of precipitation between 80 and 90 percent, according to the National Weather Service.

New rainfall amounts will be between a tenth and quarter of an inch, however higher amounts will be possible in thunderstorms, meteorologists said.

For Thursday and Thursday night, showers and thunderstorms are again in the forecast.

The region is expected to experience nicer weather Friday and throughout the holiday weekend.

The National Weather Service is predicting sunny weather for Friday through Labor Day. Highs on Friday will be in the mid-80s, and daytime highs will reach into the 70s throughout the holiday weekend, according to forecasters.

Here are the forecast details for the lower Hudson Valley area via the National Weather Service:

Today: A 20 percent chance of showers after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. East wind around 8 mph.

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 a.m. Low around 65. Southeast wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 p.m. High near 83. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then a slight chance of showers between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Light northwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 78.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 74.

Labor Day: Sunny, with a high near 77.

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between midnight and 2 a.m., then showers after 2 a.m. Low around 64. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms before 3 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. High near 84. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
