Vernooy Kill Creek Drowning Victim Is ID'd By Authorities As 47-Year-Old Ulster County Man

The tragic incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to the drowning is being asked to contact state police.

WAWARSING, NY — Officials have now identified the man who drowned at a Hudson Valley swimming hole.

On Monday, at 6:37 p.m., troopers assigned to State Police Ellenville responded to a report of a possible drowning in Vernooy Kill Creek, off Lundy Road, in the town of Wawarsing.

Owen Garrison, 47, of Highland, was found in the creek and taken from the water by members of the Napanoch Fire Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New York State Police were assisted at the scene by the Napanoch Fire Department, Ellenville Emergency Medical Services, and the Ulster County Sheriff's Office.

The tragic incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to the drowning is being asked to contact the State Police Ellenville Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-344-5300.
