POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A Dutchess County man has been charged in the crash that killed an e-bike rider.
Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi announced that 25-year-old Joseph Marcinelli was arraigned on an indictment returned by a Dutchess County grand jury related to the fatal crash in the early morning hours of Sept. 12, in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
"This case is a devastating reminder of the consequences that can follow when someone chooses to drink and get behind the wheel," Parisi said. "We allege that the defendant was driving
with a blood-alcohol content of approximately .19 percent when he struck and killed Jaime Arroyo and then left the scene. Jaime lost his life, and his family is left to live with that loss. My Office will continue to hold accountable those who make the choice to drive while intoxicated and put the lives of others at risk."
The indictment charges Marcinelli with two counts of vehicular manslaughter, aggravated driving while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death.
Police say that at approximately 12:30 a.m., Marcinelli was driving with a blood-alcohol content of approximately .19 percent when he struck Jaime Arroyo, who was riding
an electric bicycle at Salt Point Turnpike and Vero Drive, in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
The impact allegedly threw Arroyo from the bicycle and resulted in his death, according to crash investigators. Marcinelli is accused of leaving the scene following the crash, but was later apprehended.
