PLEASANT VALLEY, NY — A Poughkeepsie man entrusted to care for clients with developmental disabilities has been accused of putting one of those in his care in danger, according to police.
On Thursday, New York State Police in Poughkeepsie responded to New Horizons Resources, in the Town of Pleasant Valley, following a report involving a staff member and a person receiving day program services at the facility.
Investigators say the staff member, identified as 51-year-old Torano Elting, of Poughkeepsie, struck the client with a writing utensil, causing a small laceration while the victim was in his care.
On Friday, Elting was arrested and charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, a class A misdemeanor.
Elting was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Pleasant Valley Court on Oct. 27.
