KINGSTON, NY — Two local residents were arraigned Tuesday on charges related to a motor vehicle accident which left a pedestrian comatose, according to prosecutors.
Justin A. Greico, 35, and Katie M. Potter, 39, both residents of Petit Avenue, appeared before the Honorable David M. Gandin in Ulster County Supreme Court, according to the Ulster County District Attorney's Office.
District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji said camera systems in the area were key in solving the case.
"It easily could have gone unsolved …. were it not for the review and use of public and private camera systems available in the area," Nneji said.
Police combed through hours of municipal and business video footage during their investigation, in addition to obtaining search warrants.
According to Nneji, the accident devastated the victim and his family.
The pedestrian was struck on Aug. 1, 2026 around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Liberty Street in Kingston.
The victim was transported by helicopter to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, then transferred to a long-term intensive care unit, where he currently remains in a coma, prosecutors said Tuesday.
According to the district attorney's office, Greico had been drinking alcohol before he drove the vehicle and struck the pedestrian. Potter, his partner, owned the vehicle.
The vehicle fled the scene, and police claim the couple tried to conceal evidence afterward.
A grand jury indicted Greico on charges of second-degree assault, second-degree vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, and tampering with physical evidence.
Potter was indicted on charges of tampering with physical evidence, first-degree falsifying business records, and fifth-degree insurance fraud.
Both were arrested on warrants on Oct. 7.
