Arrest Made In Deadly Early Morning E-Bike Hit-And-Run Crash

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A Dutchess County man has been arrested in the fatal crash that killed an e-bike rider early Saturday morning.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department said Joseph W. Marcinelli, 25, of Poughkeepsie was taken into custody over the weekend. Officers responded at about 12:31 a.m. to the scene of the deadly crash.

The victim was a 35-year-old Town of Poughkeepsie resident who was traveling northbound on Salt Point Turnpike when he was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Marcinelli, according to police. Cops say Marcinelli fled the scene of the crash, but was later located by members of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department.

Marcinelli has been charged with vehicular manslaughter in the first degree, leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Following his arrest, Marcinelli was arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Justice Court. Police reported that he was remanded to the Duchess County Justice and Transition Center.

The department said the incident remains under investigation. Town of Poughkeepsie police also said members of the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office assisted in the case.
