Bear Sightings Have Saugerties Residents Talking

The mayor said it was the biggest bear he'd ever seen.

SAUGERTIES, NY — Maybe you've seen him. He's 5 feet tall and seems pretty chill.

Oh, did we mention he's a black bear who has been seen around the village of Saugerties?

The bear was a topic of conversation at the Aug. 1 Village Board meeting, according to a Hudson Valley 1.

Mayor Bill Murphy said he spotted the black bear as he was getting ready for dinner Sunday, adding it was the biggest black bear he'd ever seen.

The wild animal has also been a talking point around the village, having been seen on West Bridge Street and Lighthouse Drive.
