Blooming Grove Man Strikes, Kills Pedestrian, Then Leaves Scene

The pedestrian was severely injured and was taken to the hospital where he died.

BLOOMING GROVE, NY — State Police arrested a Blooming Grove man for leaving the scene of an accident.

Around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Eliu Rivera, 56, of Blooming Grove was walking south on Glenwood Road in the Town of Blooming Grove when he was struck by vehicle.

He sustained severe injuries and was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh where he was ultimately pronounced dead.

An investigation by the State Police and Blooming Grove Police Department led to the discovery of Richard Aiello, 37, also of Blooming Grove, and his 2003 Subaru Forester at his home, which was a short distance from the scene of the accident.

Aiello was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident.

Additional charges are pending further investigation.
