Brooklyn Man Accused Of Stealing 228 Cell Phones From Best Buy
A Long Island man was charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors in 2020 when the thefts occurred.

MONROE, NY — A Brooklyn man was accused Tuesday of stealing almost $250,000 worth of cell phones from a Monroe Best Buy in 2020.
The New York State Police said Jarred Sweeney, 32, of Brooklyn, was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree grand larceny, all felonies.
He was arraigned in the Town of Monroe Court and released on an appearance ticket.

State police said, around 2:30 a.m. Oct. 27, 2020, troopers responded to an alarm at the Best Buy in the town of Monroe.
While en route, a gray Subaru Crosstrek with no license plates was seen traveling east on Larkin Drive. There were three people in the vehicle, police said.

A traffic stop was initiated and two of the Subaru's passengers fled from the area. They were not located, police said.
The driver, Edward Callegari, 47, of West Islip, complied with the traffic stop on Route 218.
Police said a search of the car found 228 Samsung Galaxy phones worth more than $249,000.
Callegari was charged with the following:
- Driving while ability impaired, drugs, a misdemeanor
- Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor
- Fourth-degree conspiracy, a felony
- Second-degree grand larceny, a felony
- Third-degree burglary, a felony
- Criminal mischief, a misdemeanor
- First-degree reckless endangerment, a felony
- Third-degree fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor
- Resisting arrest, a misdemeanor
- Obstruction of governmental administration, a misdemeanor
- Unlawful possession of radio devices, a misdemeanor
- Possession of burglar tools, a misdemeanor
- Numerous vehicle and traffic law violations
Police said he was arraigned in the Town of Monroe Court and sent to the Orange County Jail.
Authorities said members of the Troop F Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Forensics Investigation Unit, with the help of the FNI Major Theft Task Force, New York City Police Department and the Best Buy Organized Retail Crime Manager were able to find and arrest Sweeney, who was one of the passengers in the Subaru who fled from the scene Oct. 27, 2020.
