Child Dies In Route 22 Crash In Dutchess County
Authorities said driver inattention and sun glare were contributing factors in the crash.
AMENIA, NY — A two-car crash in the Dutchess County took the life of a child Thursday.
The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened around 8:20 a.m. on Route 22 in the town of Amenia.
The sheriff's office said a 2018 Nissan Sentra, driven by Reneisha Johnson, 26, of Millerton, was traveling south on the highway when it stopped in traffic for a car making a turn.

A 2000 Ford Explorer driven by Forrest McBreairty, 73, of Amenia, struck the Nissan from behind after failing to see it stopped, authorities said.
Johnson and her passenger, 2-year-old Ellie Dunlop, were injured and were initially taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. They were later flown to Westchester Medical Center where the child died.

The sheriff's office said that driver inattention and sun glare were thought to be contributing factors in the crash.
The investigation is continuing by the sheriff's office Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit. No charges have been filed at this time.
The New York State Police and the Amenia Fire Department assisted at the scene.
