Columbia County Man Accused In Bat Attack
Troopers responded to an address for a welfare check after receiving a partial 911 call.

PHILMONT, NY — Police arrested a Philmont man after responding to a domestic dispute. State police charged Joshua A. Charron, 21, of Philmont, with second-degree assault, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal mischief, preventing an emergency call and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors.
Around 2:30 a.m. Jan. 3, troopers responded to a Main Street address in Philmont for a welfare check after a partial 911 call was received.
An investigation found that Charron engaged in a domestic dispute and struck the victim with a baseball bat.

When the victim tried to call 911, Charron destroyed the phone, police said.
He fled from the residence and was found a short time later, but resisted as troopers took him into custody.

Charron was arraigned in the Village of Philmont Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond.
He is next scheduled to appear before the court Jan. 8.
