Columbia County Woman Accused Of Causing Child's Death
Police said the child was found unresponsive in a Greenport home in June.
GREENPORT, NY — A Columbia County woman was accused of causing the death of her infant child.
The New York State Police said Sareese M. Stewart, 30, of Greenport, was arrested and charged Tuesday with second-degree manslaughter, a felony.
Police said troopers and emergency medical technicians were called to 10 Broeck Lane in Greenport June 23 for an unresponsive child, who was later pronounced dead at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

The investigation, which was in conjunction with the Columbia County District Attorney's Office and the Columbia County Coroner's Office, determined that Stewart recklessly caused the death of her 21-month-old child.
State police said Stewart was not being held in jail. She was ordered to appear in the Columbia County Court Oct. 8.
