Columbia Man Accused Of Trying To Drown Someone

After being arraigned, the man was sent to jail without the possibility of bail.

TAGHKANIC, NY — A Columbia County man was accused of trying to drown someone. State police said Joseph Macri, 75, of Taghkanic, was accused of second-degree attempted murder, a felony.

Around 3:45 p.m. Friday, troopers were sent to Sopak Road in the town of Taghkanic for a report of a possible domestic incident.

Police said Macri was found trying to drown another person in a pond on the property.

Macri was taken into custody without incident after complying with commands from troopers.

The victim was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Macri was arraigned virtually before the City of Hudson Court and sent without the possibility of bail to the Columbia County Jail.

He is scheduled to appear before the court July 8.
