Coronavirus: 6 At Montgomery Nursing Home Infected

MONTGOMERY, NY — Six people at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Orange County have tested positive for the new coronavirus. According to a Facebook post, Administrator Paul Reynolds and Vincent Maniscalco, vice president for strategic planning, said a resident at the center was tested for and diagnosed with COVID-19 Monday.

This person was the first of four residents to test positive for the virus.

In addition, two staff members also tested positive and are currently recovering at their respective homes.

Upon learning of the first positive test, the center immediately contacted both the state and local health departments.

There are 498 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Orange County as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the state Department of Health.

Center officials said they are continuing to work under the guidance of the state Department of Health and is taking "any and all precautions to safeguard the residents and staff at the facility."

The center had previously implemented protocols from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to protect its residents.

They included, among other things, strict infection control and prevention initiatives, stringent hand-washing procedures, restricting visitation and screening all individuals — including staff — who are permitted to enter the center.

All health care workers adhere to the guidance issued by the CDC and the health department for transmission-based precautions in caring for the center's patients, officials said.

"Our hearts go out to the patients and staff, and their loved ones," officials said. "We extend our sincerest wishes for a full recovery."
