Coronavirus: Ulster County Reports 1st Death

The county executive said this was a sobering reminder of the severity of the situation.

KINGSTON, NY — The first death related to the new coronavirus was reported in Ulster County. According to a post on the county's website, County Executive Pat Ryan said the person was a 76-year-old Plattekill man. He died Sunday at Vassar Brothers Medical Center due to complications from COVID-19.

Ryan said, on behalf of the county, he sent his deepest sympathies to the friends and family of the man who died.

"This serves as a sobering reminder of the severity of the situation and the need for all of us to take all precautions necessary to stop the spread of COVID-19," he said.

Ryan thanked all the medical and emergency service professional who have been on the frontline since day one.

"I would like to assure everyone that my office will continue to work around the clock to protect the health and safety of all of the residents of Ulster County," he said.

As of Sunday, there were 179 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Ulster County.
