Dog Killed When Man Sets Parents' Home On Fire: Police

Police said the fire was started a month before the man was arrested.

GREENVILLE, NY — A 29-year-old Orange County man was accused of setting his parents' home on fire.

The New York State Police said Brett Bayo, 29, of Greenville, was arrested Monday and charged with third-degree arson and aggravated cruelty to animals, felonies.

Police said an investigation found that Bayo set fire to his parents' home Sept. 23.

They were not home at the time, police said, but the family dog was. The animal did not survive the blaze.

Bayo was taken to Garnet Health Medical Center for a mental health evaluation.

He was arraigned in the City of Middletown Court and released on his own recognizance.

Bayo is scheduled to appear in the Town of Greenville Court Nov. 10.
