Dover Man Accused Of Felony DWI, Being Fugitive

The charges were the results of a traffic stop on Route 22.

DOVER PLAINS, NY — A traffic stop led to the arrest of a Dutchess County man wanted in another state.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said John P. Ballou, 59, of Dover Plains, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Sheriff’s deputies said they stopped a car on Route 22 in the town of Dover with Ballou as the driver.

He was accused of driving while intoxicated.

During processing, it was discovered he had previous convictions for DWI and was wanted on an active warrant out of Massachusetts.

Ballou was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and being a fugitive from justice on the warrant.

He was arraigned in the Town of Dover Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail with no bail, pending extradition proceedings in county court.
