Poughkeepsie...The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced work will begin on Monday, August 9th to replace a culvert on Smithfield Road (CR-5) near Silver Mountain Road and Cooper Road in the Town of North East.   This project follows the recent replacement of two culverts on McGhee Hill Road (CR-64).   McGhee Hill Road, which has been closed since June, re-opened to traffic this week as work was completed.

Work on the Smithfield Road culvert includes removal and replacement of the existing concrete structure, as well as the addition of three-foot shoulders to the roadway. Smithfield Road will be closed during construction, with a detour route posted along State Route 22/US Route 44, McGhee Hill Road (CR-64), and Charlie Hill Road. View a map of the closure and detour. This project is anticipated to be finished by the end of 2021.

Dutchess County Legislature Chairman Gregg Pulver, who represents the Town of North East, said, “These are important projects that improve the safety and stability of these roadways now and into the future.    I am grateful to the Department of Public Works for moving these projects forward in a timely and efficient process.”
