Dutchess County Woman Accused Of Stealing Unemployment Compensation

For about seven months, the woman allegedly falsely filed for unemployment.

RHINEBECK, NY — A Dutchess County woman is facing felony charges for allegedly stealing unemployment compensation from the state. State Police said Kaila M. Royster, 28, of Hyde Park was charged August 1 with first-degree falsifying business records and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, both felonies.

An investigation found that Royster allegedly stole more than $5,590 from the state Department of Labor between April 2014 and October 2014. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

She allegedly certified weekly that she was unemployed when in fact police said she was gainfully employed.

State Police were assisted by the state Department of Labor.

Royster was released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Hyde Park Court August 10.
