Dutchess County Woman Struck Child Numerous Times: Sheriff

Authorities said the woman also verbally abused the child.

LAGRANGE, NY — A LaGrange woman was accused of assaulting a child.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said Crystal Whyble, 28, of LaGrange, was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

On July 26, the sheriff's office and the Child Advocacy Center began an investigation into a report of a child who had been injured in LaGrange.

Whyble was later arrested Tuesday in connection with the investigation.

Authorities said she struck the child numerous times and verbally abused the child.

The sheriff's office said no further information about the child or the circumstances surrounding the incident would be released at this time to protect the child's privacy.

Whyble was arraigned in the Town of LaGrange Court and released on her own recognizance. She is due to be back in court Nov. 10.
