Dutchess Man Accused Of Attempted Murder

Police said he fired shots at a Poughkeepsie home that had two people inside.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A Wappingers Falls man was taken into custody Wednesday after being accused of trying to kill two people.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department said on Facebook that Alfred Califano, 49, of Wappingers Falls, fired shots shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday at a home with two people in it and fired shots at a car that was occupied by a third person.

The home was located on Channingville Road, authorities said.

Police were able to make contact with Califano, who surrendered to authorities around 8:40 a.m.

He was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of criminal weapon possession and four counts of reckless endangerment, all felonies, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the Arlington Fire Department and the New Hamburg Fire Department.
