Dutchess Man Accused Of Raping A Child

RED HOOK, NY — A Dutchess County man was arrested March 11 after being accused of raping a child.

The New York State Police said Gary Cowperthwaite, 64, of Red Hook, was charged with second-degree rape and two counts of second-degree criminal sex act, all felonies.

Authorities said a law enforcement tip led investigators to determine Cowperthwaite sexually assaulted a child.

He was arraigned in the Town of Red Hook Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, $40,000 secure bond or $80,000 partially secured bond.
