Elephant Takes Leave Of Sanctuary, Goes For Walk [PHOTOS]

Someone forgot to turn on the electric fence which allowed the pachyderm to get out.

WESTTOWN, NY — If you thought you saw an elephant on walkabout Sunday night in Orange County, you weren't seeing things. The 44-year-old Vietnam native wandered away from an animal sanctuary in Westtown.

The elephant's name is Fritha, according to recordonline.com, and she survived the Vietnam War.

State police said the pachyderm had been burned by napalm during the war.

Troopers were called after Fritha was able to get through the electric fence that had not been turned on for the night.

She was located and escorted back home by troopers and workers from the sanctuary.
