Ex-Saugerties Cop Pleads Guilty In Sex Crime Case Involving Minor: DA

A sentencing proceeding has been scheduled for September.

ULSTER COUNTY, NY — A former Saugerties police officer accused of having sexual contact with a minor pleaded guilty Monday.

Sydney Mills, 54, of Saugerties, entered the plea to second-degree criminal sexual act, a felony, in a proceeding in Ulster County Court, according to the Ulster County District Attorney’s office.

Mills is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 2. If he had not entered a guilty plea, his case was slated to go to trial later this month.

In July 2025, a grand jury indicted Mills. According to prosecutors, Mills engaged in oral sexual conduct with a minor under age 15 in 2022. He was employed at the time as a police officer.

District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji’s office indicated the victim showed “admirable strength” coming forward to report what happened to her.
