Family Fun, Gems, Jewels, Fossils, Free Kids Specimens, Jewelry, Equipment, Adventure All At Mid-Hudson Mineral Show.

POUGHKEEPSIE,NY—Dozens of mineral, gem and jewelry supply dealers, stunning exhibits and half a dozen free specimens each for kids are among the most exciting aspects of the Mid Hudson Valley Gem and Mineral Society's (MHVGMS) 2016 show this coming Saturday, Sept. 17th and Sunday, Sept. 18th at Gold's Gym in Poughkeepsie, NY. Taking place from 10 am-5 pm on the 17th and 10 am 4 pm on the 18th, the event will be located at the Gym Family Sports Complex at 258 Titusville Road, in Poughkeepsie (La Grange), NY.

More than two dozen top dealers featuring everything from stunning beads and beautiful mineral specimens to amazing fossils , semi-precious wire-wrapped gemstones, meteorites, tools, equipment and literature. A list of exhibitors can be found at http://mhvgms.org/annual_show/dealers.html.
A special exhibit focusing on "The World of Agates and Jaspers,” with rare material from member collections on display.
The Society’s “Glitter Mountain” will highlight an event that gives every child at the show a chance to select six free, carefully labeled mineral specimens.
Attendees will have a chance to do some real treasure hunting, with, Mohawk Mining Company providing a sluice where they can sort through gem rough to find gemstones.
A photography exhibit that will feature this year’s theme “ The World of Agates & Fossils” .
Fluorescence is one of the most beautiful and least seen aspects of the mineral kingdom. Attendees will have a chance to experience it at the Society’s Fluorescent Mineral Tent.
Area high school earth science teachers can send their students to study minerals and answer a special questionnaire about the specimens on view at the show and the events overall theme.
The society has a new lapidary workshop. Members will give demonstrations of rock cutting and polishing in the lapidary area.
Wonder what that rock on your shelf is? Attendees can clear up mineral mysteries by bringing in their specimens for an up-close examination.
Established in 1969, the Mid Hudson Valley Gem and Mineral Society is a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is the advancement of the Earth Sciences by stimulating interest and study in this field.
It does this by holding dozens of field trips a year, hosting a monthly lecture on a topic dealing with gems, minerals, geology or some other area of the earth sciences, holding an annual show, and teaching the lapidary arts. It has about 100 members. Dues are $15 annually for an adult and $20 for a family.
Those interested in gem and mineral collecting are called "rockhounds."
