Father, Son Die In Early Morning House Fire In Hudson Valley

The man pushed his 9-year-old daughter out a window to safety, the sheriff's office said.

SHAWANGUNK, NY — A father and son were killed in an early morning house fire in Ulster County. The Ulster County Sheriff's Office said multiple fire, police and EMS personnel were sent to 550 Burnt Meadow Road in the town of Shawangunk around 12:30 a.m. Sunday for a home on fire.

Authorities said a 9-year-old girl was found outside the home, having been pushed out a window to safety by her father, who was later identified as Joseph J. Hull, 50.

The sheriff's office said Hull stayed in the house trying to find his 7-year-old son Joseph D. Hull.

Firefighters eventually found the father and son, and they were taken to Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall in Newburgh where they were later pronounced dead.

Authorities said the origin of the fire remains under investigation, but foul play is not currently suspected.

The Ulster County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the state police, Town of Shawangunk Police, New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, fire companies from Shawangunk Valley, Walker Valley, Gardiner and Modena, as well as Mobile Life Support Services and New Paltz Rescue Squad.
