Felony Charges for Man with 2 Previous DWI Convictions

Police said the Pleasant Valley man was driving with a revoked license.

New York State Police charged Joseph M. Barry of Pleasant Valley, New York, with Driving While Ability Impaired by the combination of drugs and alcohol, a Class D Felony, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st Degree, a Class E Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Troopers stopped Barry on North Avenue June 5 for an equipment violation. The arresting officer concluded Barry was impaired by drugs and alcohol. Additionally, Barry was found to possess cocaine.

The 53-year-old was charged with Felony DWI due to two prior DWI related convictions within the previous 10 years. He was also charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st Degree when Troopers discovered that his driving privileges were revoked.

Barry was arraigned in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. He is due to reappear in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court on June 7, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.
