GA Man Accused Of Having Loaded Gun, Too Much To Drink

The Georgia resident was sent to jail without bail.

PLATTEKILL, NY — A man from Georgia was arrested after being accused of having an illegal handgun and driving while his ability to do so was impaired. State police said a vehicle was stopped around 9 p.m. Thursday on I-87 in the Town of Plattekill for a vehicle and traffic violation.

Police said the driver — Joseph D. Glover, 44, of Augusta, Georgia — was found to be impaired by alcohol.

Before troopers started searching his car, they said he told them there was a gun in it.

Troopers said they found a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun with a 15-round magazine in Glover's car.

He was taken into custody and processed at the Newburgh barracks, where his blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.09 percent.

Glover was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (loaded firearm other than a person's home), a felony, unlawful possession of certain ammunition feeding devices, a misdemeanor, and driving while ability impaired by alcohol, a traffic infraction.

He was arraigned in the Town of Plattekill Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail without bail.

No return court date was available at the time of publication.
