Grand Jury Indicts Monroe Man For Stabbing Death
There was alcohol involved before an altercation and the stabbing.

GOSHEN, NY — An Orange County grand jury handed down an indictment Wednesday in the October stabbing death of a Monroe man. District Attorney David M. Hoovler said Samuel Del Cid Hernandez, 31, of Monroe, was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence, felonies, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, in the death of Louis Rivera, 25, of Monroe.
Hernandez is expected to be arraigned on the indictment in Orange County Court in early January 2019.
Authorities said, on the evening of Oct. 12 into Oct. 13, Hernandez and several other people, including Rivera, were drinking at Hernandez's apartment.

Hernandez took a knife from the kitchen and followed him into the hallway, where he stabbed Rivera multiple times, killing him, police said.
Hernandez is alleged to have later discarded the knife, according to authorities.
"Weapons and alcohol are never a good combination," Hoovler said. "Unfortunately, it's all too often that we hear of tragedies when people drink to excess, arm themselves and injure or kill their friends during arguments. This case represents another of those tragedies, and my office will strive to bring justice to the victim and his family through an appropriate sentence to the man who killed him."
