Severe Thunderstorm Watch Sunday For Parts Of HV: UPDATE

Some parts of the region could expect hazardous weather Sunday, but the risk continues into Monday for other parts.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties. It is in effect until 9 p.m. Sunday.

The counties were previously under a hazardous weather outlook.

Hazardous weather outlooks have been issued Sunday for parts of the Hudson Valley. The National Weather Service said one outlook for Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties is in effect through Sunday night.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected Sunday afternoon and evening, mainly north and west of the Hudson Valley.

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms with the main threat being damaging winds.

The NWS also said that additional showers and thunderstorms are expected Monday ahead of the passage of a cold front.

There is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms Monday afternoon into early evening, with the main threats damaging winds and hail around 1 inch in diameter.

For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and northern Westchester, hazardous weather is not expected for Sunday.

However, the forecast is calling for a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m. Sunday, with showers likely and a thunderstorm possible between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

For Monday, the hazardous weather outlook said a line of showers and thunderstorms will likely approach the region late in the day and into the evening. There is the potential for localized strong to damaging wind gusts with this activity.
