Health Quest Welcomes 2 Babies New Year's Day At Same Time

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — It's a tie. The first babies born in the New Year at Health Quest hospitals share a few things in common: They are both girls, they were both overdue, they have similar names, and they were born at 1:02 a.m.

Lana Dyani Dean was born to parents Jessica and Chad Dean of Canaan, Connecticut, at Sharon Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces and was 20 inches long.

Poughkeepsie residents Nicole Mckenna and Christopher Vail welcomed Liana Linda Marie Vail at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.

The Deans’ due date was Dec. 26, while Liana Vail was expected Christmas Eve.

“Because I was overdue, I was scheduled to be induced this Wednesday,” said Jessica Dean, who was also born at Sharon Hospital.

“Jessica arrived to the hospital yesterday afternoon for a scheduled check-up and the doctor admitted her around 4 p.m.,” Chad Dean said. “Before we knew it, she was in labor.”

The couple is as excited as ever to finally meet their newborn and said they look forward to making memories with their baby girl at the beach later this year.

“We are so thankful for a happy and healthy baby, and I am looking forward to Jessica being the mom that she has always wanted to be,” Chad said.

Mckenna and Vail said their newborn, who was due Christmas Eve, had other plans in mind.

“It’s like she wanted to choose her own birthday,” Mckenna said. Baby Liana is joined by brothers Andrew, 12, Christopher, 8, and Alexander, 4. The couple did not know whether they were having a boy or a girl, but hoped for a baby girl.

“The boys are pretty excited and keep saying they are going to have a new baby,” Vail said. “She is a very special baby.”
