Heat Advisory, Air Alert: Poughkeepsie's Work Week Weather

Anyone feeling the heat and air pollution in Beacon, Newburgh and Kingston should move to a cool and shaded location.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — High heat continues to bake the Hudson Valley. There are heat advisories for eastern Ulster, Columbia and Dutchess counties in effect from noon to 9 p.m. for Monday and Tuesday.

For the first two days of the week, temps are expected to reach the lower to mid 90s, and the high humidity will make it feel like it is near 100 in the area during the afternoon hours.

The Hudson Valley received 2-4 inches of rain at the beginning of August.

"So only 4 days into the month… and we’re already seeing some areas near the average rainfall for the entire month," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "But we now go from soaker to sauna."

However, the chance for showers and thunderstorms will increase midweek.

Because of the heat and the air pollution, consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. Take breaks in shaded, cool environments. Hydrate. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.
