Help For Furloughed Federal Workers: Catholic Charities

From Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster

As the partial shutdown of the federal government continues to linger, Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster wants to remind those impacted by the furlough that assistance is available through the non-profit agency’s Case Management program. Catholic Charities services include emergency food and shelter assistance and other social safety net support.

“As the government shutdown persists and furloughed employees are now missing paychecks, we are beginning to hear news of residents who are struggling to make ends meet,” said Hector Morell, Director of Social and Human Services for Catholic Charities. “Our goal is to help ensure that our friends and neighbors in need have a roof over their head and food on their table. I urge them to connect with our compassionate case management staff for assistance.”

Community residents interested in lending their support to those who are struggling as a result of the furlough are encouraged to make a donation to one of the area human service agencies, like Catholic Charities or their local food pantry. Catholic Charities will gratefully accept donations of cash, food, basic hygiene items, warm outerwear, and undergarments for distribution to those in need in Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties. Assistance is provided regardless of religion or ability to pay.

“The extended furlough is proving to be very stressful for many of those affected,” said Dr. Dean Scher, CEO, Catholic Charities. “But there’s no need to go it alone. Our region is fortunate to have many outstanding agencies, and generous community members, who can offer a helping hand during this difficult time.”
