High-Speed Pursuit Yields 45 Tickets For Middletown Man

Besides the chase, police said the man caused a car crash in which he overturned.

MONTGOMERY, NY — An Orange County man was issued 45 tickets following a high speed pursuit and a crash in the town of Montgomery, police said.

The New York State Police said troopers saw a white 2015 Mazda CX-5 with a Georgia license plate traveling on Interstate 84 in Montgomery around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Mazda was traveling at a high rate of speed, and troopers initiated a traffic stop.

Police said the car didn't stop but made a U-turn on I-84 and headed west.

The car entered Route 17 west and, while still trying to get away from the troopers, sideswiped a 2002 Toyota Camry.

Police said that caused the Mazda to overturn near Exit 119.

The driver — Chandler Riggin, 21, of Middletown — and his passenger — Brittany Tobin, 22, of Greenville — were taken into custody. Neither was injured in the crash, nor was the person in the Toyota.

Riggin was issued 45 vehicle and traffic law tickets, including for speeding, driving on the shoulder failure to comply and other violations, police said.

He was also charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of governmental administration, third-degree flee a police officer, resisting arrest, reckless driving, second-degree criminal contempt and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operator, all misdemeanors.

Tobin was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest, misdemeanors.

They were both arraigned in the Montgomery Town Court and released on appearance tickets.
