
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The president of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie will be leaving her post at the end of the 2016-17 school year.
In a posting on the Vassar College website, Catharine Hill said the board of trustees and she established the timing when she signed her last contract in 2012.
“Announcing this now provides adequate time for the search process to be put in place this spring and to proceed smoothly over the next academic year,” she said.

According to her biography, Hill is the 10th president of the college, having taken the office in July 2006.

She is an economist and has focused on higher education affordability, as well as on economic development and reform in Africa.
Hill counts among her accomplishments reinstating need-blind admissions and greater community outreach.
Prior to becoming president at Vassar, she was the provost of Williams College.
Hill holds a PhD in economics from Yale University.
