Howard Zucker Names HRHCare Chief as Hypertension Expert

On March 21st, Dr. Sophia McIntyre, Chief of Clinical Quality and Physician Leadership Development at HRHCare Community Health, presented on baby boomer hypertension as part of New York State Commissioner of Health Howard A. Zucker’s Medical Grand Rounds Program. Held in the Medical Alumni Auditorium at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse, NY, presenters at this session were identified by the Commissioner as experts around frequently undiagnosed conditions for baby boomers, persons born between 1945 and 1965.

The intent of this program was to inform clinicians of conditions often undiagnosed among baby boomers; namely hepatitis C, hypertension, and prediabetes. A noted expert on hypertension, Dr. McIntyre described the concept of undiagnosed hypertension, and the steps a health system can take to identify their undiagnosed patients. She covered the many consequences of leaving hypertension undiagnosed, including subsequent high blood pressure, and gave examples of workflow and protocol options to assist in assuring that all patients are properly diagnosed and treated.
