Hudson Valley Man Opens Credit Card, Tries to Buy Car with Family Member’s Identity

He faces four felony charges.

UNION VALE, NY — State Police arrested a Union Vale 20-year-old on fraud-related charges August 4.

Alexander J. Junke was charged with second-degree forgery, first-degree attempted identity theft, third-degree attempted grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records, all felonies.

Police said that on August 3, troopers were sent to a Union Vale residence to investigate a reported identity theft.

The victim said someone had opened a Capitol One credit card in her name using her Social Security number.

She also found out that the suspect had used her name to try to buy a 2015 Subaru from a California car dealership.

Police investigated and said that Junke fraudulently opened the credit card by using a family member’s identification and then forged her name on a loan application for the car.

The sale of the vehicle was canceled before Junke finalized the transaction.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and he may face additional charges.

Junke was arrested at his home and arraigned in the Town of Union Vale Court.

He was sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail or $75,000 bond

His next court appearance is scheduled for August 10.
