Hudson Valley Man Shoots, Kills Neighbor's Dog

Police said he shot a firearm within 500 feet of nearby residences.

LAGRANGE, NY — A Pleasant Valley man was arrested after shooting and killing his neighbor’s dog, State Police said. Scott Messick, 58, was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and illegal discharge of a firearm, misdemeanors.

Police said they responded Jan. 28 to Meddaugh Road in the Town of LaGrange for a report of a dog being shot.

An investigation found Messick discharged a shotgun within 500 feet of nearby residences without permission and killed his neighbor’s dog.

He was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of LaGrange Court Feb. 20.
