Hudson Valley Woman Accused Of Stealing From Scouts
Authorities said she also forged records to conceal the thefts.
GOSHEN, NY — An Orange County woman was accused of stealing from the Boy Scouts. Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said Monday that Kelley Zamenick , 43, of New Windsor, was arrested and charged with two counts of third-degree grand larceny and eight counts of first-degree falsifying business records, felonies.
The complaints file in the Town of Newburgh Justice Court said Zamenick was the committee chairwoman for both a Boy Scout troop and a Cub Scout pack that were sponsored by the Gardenertown United Methodist Church.
Authorities said that, between 2016 and 2018, she embezzled more than $10,465 from the Boy Scout troop and $3,040 from the Cub Scout pack.

Zamenick also created and submitted false documents, including eight forged bank statements, to conceal the thefts, police said.
The investigation started after the charter representative of the pack contacted the district attorney's office to report suspicions that there may have been a theft of funds.

Zamenick turned herself in at the Town of Newburgh Police Department.
Hoovler said that scouting is a worthwhile program that develops character, leadership skills and future community leaders.
"Those who join or donate to the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts have the right to know that their money is going toward the programs they support," he said.
