Hudson Valley Woman Accused of Stealing Unemployment Benefits

Police said she received the funds while she was employed.

FISHKILL, NY — A Wappingers Fall woman has been arrested for stealing state unemployment benefits.

State Police said Lisa E. Vasquez-Aviles, 49, was charged with third-degree grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records, felonies.

Between April 2012 and August 2013, Vasquez-Aviles was living in the Village of Fishkill and, police said, received more than $5,000 worth of unemployment insurance benefits while she was otherwise gainfully employed.

The state Department of Labor assisted the State Police in the investigation.

Vasquez-Aviles was issued an appearance ticket to return to the Village of Fishkill Court September 12.
