Inmate Charged After Using Plastic Food Tray As Weapon: Sheriff

The other inmate was left with arm injuries, according to cops. The accused attacker is now facing felony assault and weapon charges.

ULSTER COUNTY, NY — A county jail inmate is facing weapon and assault charges for using an improvised weapon against another inmate, police said.

The Ulster County Sheriff's Office said on Sunday that a 27-year-old man from Ellenville, who is an inmate at the Ulster County Jail, was arrested.

The incident took place on August 17, when detectives were notified that an inmate got into a physical altercation with another inmate, and used a plastic food tray as a weapon.

A 26-year-old inmate received an arm injury and was treated by medical staff at the jail, according to officials.

The 27-year-old was charged with felony second degree assault and felony second degree possession of a weapon. After being processed for these offenses, he remains at the Ulster County Jail and is scheduled to appear in City of Kingston Court.
