Jury Convicts Man In Kingston Home Invasion Murder: DA

He shot and killed the man in front of his girlfriend and then tried to hide the gun, the DA says.

KINGSTON, NY – A jury convicted a Schenectady man Thursday in connection with the slaying of a Kingston resident during a 2023 home invasion, officials said.

Nyqwuan Monroe, 25, of Schenectady, faces up to 25 years to life in prison at his sentencing, currently scheduled for March 17.

Jurors found Monroe guilty of two counts of second-degree murder, three counts of first-degree burglary, and second and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to the Ulster County District Attorney’s office.

The panel reached its verdict following a seven-day trial.

The charges stemmed from a home invasion July 27, 2023. According to prosecutors, Monroe was already a convicted felon when he went to Kingston with a loaded firearm. Along with two co-defendants, Monroe entered the home of Dominique Green, prosecutors said.

Monroe then shot and killed Green in front of his girlfriend, before giving the gun to a co-defendant to dispose of in the woods, according to prosecutors. Police recovered the gun and investigators found Monroe’s DNA on both the weapon and a shell casing lodged inside it, prosecutors added.

Special Victims Bureau Chief Jenna Hastings said of the verdict: "There is nothing that can ever heal the pain and trauma that Nyqwuan Monroe’s actions caused the family and loved ones of Dominique Green, but (this) verdict has given to them a piece of justice for Dom."

Attorney Matthew Mahan, who represented Monroe, could not immediately be reached for comment.
