KeyBank Branch Donates Historic Paintings to the Highland Falls Community

KeyBank’s Highland Falls branch recently donated a total of ten (10) historic paintings to the community of Highland Falls. The paintings, five (5) of which were painted by Hugh Laidman and five (5) by Glen Heberling, depict local scenes including a view of downtown Highland Falls, the park at Bear Mountain, and several of West Point. The artwork was originally commissioned by Marine Midland Bank in the late 1960s and early 1970s to adorn the walls of the branch. Several bank acquisitions later, they became possessions of KeyBank.

“Our roots run deep in this community, and these paintings are part of our heritage,” said KeyBank branch manager Sharon Abarno-McArtin. “They hold great meaning to us at the bank and to the community at large. It is fitting that they be displayed publicly for all to appreciate.”

Laidman’s painting of the Village of Highland Falls was recently presented to Highland Falls Mayor Joe D’Onofrio and hangs in Village Hall. The remaining art has been donated for display at the Highland Falls Library.

“We are very grateful to KeyBank for sharing these local scenes with us so that all the members of our community can enjoy them,” said Highland Falls board director Suzanne Brahm.

One of the paintings depicting the Sacred Heart Church will be featured in the library’s exhibit during the third annual Highland Falls ArtWalk taking place this Saturday, July 15th.
