Kiryas Joel Hit-And-Run Arrest Made

The child was found lying in the roadway in early November.

KIRYAS JOEL, NY — A hit-and-run incident in Kiryas Joel that occurred in November has yielded an arrest and charges. State Police in Monroe arrested Yudah Zimmerman, 24, of Kiryas Joel, for leaving the scene of a serious physical injury accident, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a minor, misdemeanor.

Police responded to a hit-and-run accident around 5 p.m. Nov. 9 on Siget Court in the Village of Kiryas Joel where an 8-year-old boy was found lying unresponsive in the roadway. Police said he had been struck by a vehicle.

The child was taken to Westchester Medical Center and treated for serious internal injuries.

After an extensive investigation, State Police said they identified Zimmerman as the driver of the vehicle that struck the boy.

Zimmerman had been working as a delivery man in the area at the time of the accident, police said.

The case was presented before a grand jury in Orange County, and Zimmerman was indicted on the two charges Dec. 14.

He was arrested and sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail pending further court proceedings.
