'Law & Order' Actress Diane Neal Begins Run For Congress

Neal wants to challenge Rep. John Faso as an independent.

HURLEY, NY — A former “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” actress has thrown her hat into the ring as an independent for the 19th Congressional District. Diane Neal, 41, of Hurley, is a registered Democrat and is trying to get enough signatures to appear on the November ballot.

Neal played an assistant district attorney named Casey Novak on “SVU” from 2003 to 2008 and in the 2011-12 season, the Daily Freeman said, and was also in a few episodes of “NCIS.”

She has lived in Hurley since 2014.

Neal would be facing incumbent Rep. John Faso, R-Kinderhook, and one of six Democratic challengers.

The Democrats are Patrick Ryan, Brian Flynn, Antonio Delgado, David Clegs, Jeffrey Beals and Gareth Rhodes, the Daily Freeman said.

The 19th Congressional District includes Columbia, Delaware, Greene, Otsego, Schoharie, Sullivan and Ulster counties and parts of Broome, Dutchess, Montgomery and Rensselaer counties.
